Steve’s Story
A native Nebraskan, Steve Lathrop has made his career advocating for working families and small businesses across our state.
Steve has continued his efforts in the Nebraska Legislature, where he has represented Ralston and Millard since 2007. Steve has earned a reputation as a pragmatic leader intent on moving our state forward. As a state senator, Steve has been an advocate for smart investments in Nebraska’s future, including increasing access to job training, strengthening our public schools, and developing renewable energy. Steve voted for the largest tax cut in Nebraska history and is continuing his work to reduce property taxes and promote tax fairness.
An effective and respected leader who tackles tough issues, Steve oversaw reforms of the Beatrice State Developmental Center, Nebraska’s unemployment insurance fund, and collective bargaining and the role of the Commission on Industrial Relations.
Steve attended Roncalli High School in Omaha, then Creighton University and Creighton University School of Law, earning his Juris Doctorate in 1981.
Steve is the proud father of four daughters. He enjoyed several years of
coaching Ralston girls softball and Mary Our Queen soccer teams. He has been a member of St. Gerald Parish for more than 20 years.
